LLC and types of CO-OPs
i am not exactly clear about the legalities, and i don't know if LLC is the best way to go; however, forming an LLC is essentially a start to founding an organization that will be doing things that A) may or may not involve money and B) may or may not involve liability. the key is "maybe." i also don't think we're talking about starting just a housing co-op like quimba or others, but rather something more complex (see link below about social co-ops).

co-op name?
we need a name. mostly for paperwork reasons (corporate status), but also to be able to refer to this project with some distinction (instead of just "co-op"). click on "Add new comment" and let's start making a list in the comments section. or bring it to the meeting. Does this change show?
2007 US Master Tax Guide
Here are two pieces of the 2007 US master tax guide relating to tax exempt entities. cooptax.pdf is included in the other but is the most pertinent page and general to all cooperatives. If you have trouble reading the full text of chapter 8, try enlarging it past 100% for screen viewing.
