We divided up our “purpose” statements from last week into four categories: Housing, Natural Environment, Community External and Community Internal. We then picked adjectives from the “purpose” statements and placed them in the category or categories we felt they belonged. We then did the same with our values mentioned above.
4 Categories:
- Housing:
Affordable, Permanent, Supportive, Communal, Healthy, Safe, Flexibility, efficiency, cooperative problem solving, unity - Environmental (Natural):
Zero Impact, Responsible use of resources, efficiency, excellence, awareness, consideration, innovation, creativity, justice - Community- External
Resource/Environmental Awareness/Education, sustainment of others, enacting social change, participation in community at large, community growth, engagement in the world, perpetuating positive living, consideration, integrity, transparency, cooperation, justice, anti-totalitarian living, persistence, love, purpose - Community- Internal
Sustain me, pursuing individual creative endeavors, participation in community at home, encouraging personal growth/development, communal living, cooperation, teamwork, self management, flexibility/ innovation, anti-totalitarian living, “being for”, purpose, equity, fairness, consideration, patience, integrity, excellence, diversity
We then broke into 3 groups and each group took one category and formed a statement from the list of adjectives and values. We then reviewed each groups work and made changes we could all agree upon. Then we collectively formulated a vision statement out of the 3 statements written and wrote the last statement for category 4, Community Internal, working it into the vision statement as well. Here is the first draft of this Vision Statement.
It was decided during the formulation of the Vision Statement that:
-
Community Internal was to be divided into the opening sentence and the last bullet point, in an effort to address what we are trying to accomplish as well as how we want to organize/maintain our internal community.
-
During our value discussion, the idea of Privilege was not brought up, and it was determined that we feel it should be addressed in our statement.
What’s next?
